LMS Week At A Glance

Hello Parents of LMS Students,

Thank you for your continued support of our staff and students at LMS. We had another great week at LMS and I am hopeful all of your children are feeling settled in the daily routines and procedures.  I am very proud of the Class of 2031 & 2032 as they are working hard and doing their best, doing what’s right, and doing for others on a daily basis.  

We have a lot of different events this week. I usually only include these in the “Snapshot of the Week Ahead” and “Upcoming Events” section at the bottom of this message, but with this being the beginning of the school year and the number of events occurring this week I wanted to make sure I touch on each of them in the body of this message. 

We have our LMS Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 8 from 6:30 - 8:00 pm. We will start the evening promptly at 6:30 pm with a greeting and welcome in the LMS Gym and the parents will be dismissed to their child’s period 1 class from there. 

• Period 1 teachers will have student schedules for parents so you will only need to know your child’s day 1, period 1 teacher in order to get started with the evening.
• We will have a master list of all student period 1 classes to help any parent that doesn’t know their child’s period 1 class. 
• We’d love to see all of you here!

Hempfield School Spirit Night at Penn Med Field is September 9, 2026. This is an opportunity to spend the evening with our Hempfield Community enjoying a Stormers game.  Here is a flyer with information about the evening. This was also sent home with each student earlier this school year. 

Picture Day is Wednesday, September 10, 2026. Picture forms were sent home earlier this year. If your child lost their form they can stop by the office and get another one. 

We will have an intruder drill on the morning of September 11, 2026.  There will be information posted in the e-News on September 10 along with a follow up about the drill in the e-News on September 11.  

PTO Fundraisers Information 

• Our first PTO Fundraiser will be from September 11 - 13 at Menchies.  They are open from noon - 10:00 pm on those days. Here is a link to the flyer that you will need to give to Menchies in order for them to donate a portion of your payment to the LMS PTO. We will also be printing the flyers and sending them home with the students at LMS. 
• Our second PTO Fundraiser will be on October 5 at Hot Z Pizza from 5:00 - 9:00 pm. They will donate a portion of each purchase to the LMS PTO.  You do not need to show a flyer for them to donate, but will need to mention that you are with the LMS PTO at the time of purchase. 

Junior Achievement Day - November 3, 2026

• This is a day where students rotate through various career development and financial literacy activities.  In order to make this day possible, we rely on volunteers to help run these activities with our students.  If you are interested in volunteering, see the flyer for more information.  There is a link on the flyer to register as a volunteer.

September Character Trait of the Month: Engagement

An engaged person gives their full attention, interest and passion to every activity they participate in.  They are intellectually, emotionally, behaviorally, socially and culturally engaged in the school community to get the most out of their experience. They are not afraid to take calculated risks and experience life fully.

CHIP covers uninsured children and teens up to age 19 – and no family earns too much to qualify. With nearly 128,000 uninsured children in Pennsylvania, this is great news for families!

CHIP provides quality, comprehensive health insurance for routine doctor’s visits, prescriptions, dental, eye care, eyeglasses, mental health, and much more. CHIP covers uninsured kids who are not eligible for Medical Assistance. For many families, CHIP is free; for others, it is low-cost.

The first HHS home football game is this Friday!   Before you head to the game, take a moment to review our stadium guidelines to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

High School Athletic Season Passes are on sale now! Beat the lines and purchase yours this week:

• General Public: Buchanan Office, 8–2:30 and 3–4 pm daily
• Students: Athletic Department throughout the school day
• Game Day 9/4: Passes will be available at the stadium starting at 5:30 pm

Hempfield School District is hiring Special Education Paraprofessionals across the district, as well as for other positions. $1,000 stipend available for paraprofessionals working in our Autistic Support classrooms this school year.

LMS Week At A Glance

Hello Parents of LMS Students,

We had a tremendous first week of school and I hope your children came home feeling excited about the new school year. 

We have our Junior Achievement  Day at LMS on November 3, 2026 and need many volunteers to make this important event for our students a successful day.  I will be posting information in the weeks ahead about how many volunteers are needed and how you can volunteer. If you know you are interested in volunteering please put that date on your calendar and stay tuned for additional information.

The PTO at LMS is new this year and we have a great group that is working hard to be able to provide additional resources to benefit our students at LMS. I look forward to being able to provide updates on a regular basis and hope you’ll consider supporting the PTO as different opportunities arise. 

I am sharing some information below related to frequently asked questions and other items that have come up this week. I will continue to provide updates and information about topics that are coming up each week, particularly as we have many families that are experiencing the middle school level for the first time. If you have any questions or would like clarification on our processes please feel free to reach out to myself or one of our school counselors so we can help everyone get acclimated to the middle school level and have a great start to the school year. 

A note about attendance:

• All communication about absences, late arrivals, or early dismissals should be sent directly to lms_attendance@hempfieldsd.org. At the elementary school level I believe you were asked to also include the homeroom teacher in attendance correspondence, but that is no longer necessary at the middle school level. 

 

A note about dismissal:

• At the middle school level we have many students who alternate between riding the bus home and walking to different activities after school. They are not expected to tell us what they are doing or if their plans change, so you do not need to reach out to the school when they are walking instead of riding the bus, or riding the bus instead of walking.  If there is a change to their plans and you need us to help communicate that with your child, please don’t hesitate to reach out so we can help do so, but as long as you and your child know what they are to be doing after school you do not need to share that with us even if it changes from one day to the next.
